Usually the first teeth to appear in a baby’s mouth are the two bottom front teeth. On average this can happen at about 6 to 8 months old. The 4 upper front teeth are usually next to follow. The remainder of the baby’s teeth will periodically appear until they are about 2 1/2 years old. By 2 ½ most children will have all 20 baby teeth. Every child is different, so don’t worry if they come in a different order or if they are a little earlier or later.
Baby teeth will eventually be lost, however, they are still as important as our adult teeth. Not only are they important for every day biting, chewing, speech and physical appearance, but they also hold the space for incoming permanent teeth.
It is important for parents to teach their children at an early age, to practice daily hygiene the importance of eating a healthy diet, and practicing daily oral hygiene to maintain healthy teeth and gums for a lifetime of smiles.
