Scaling & Root Planning
Scaling and root planning procedures are used to remove plaque and tarter from below the gumline. This is done to control the growth of harmful bacteria and helps the gums to reattach firmly to the teeth. Because this type of procedure goes deeper than a regular cleaning, your mouth may be numbed and the cleaning may take two or more visits.

Root Planning
By scraping and smoothing the root surfaces of your teeth, gum tissue can more firmly reattach itself to the roots.

Post Procedure
After the scaling and root planning procedures you may have a sore and tender mouth. Your dentist may recommend rinsing with warm salt water, or may suggest pain medication if needed. To keep your gums and teeth healthy, brush, floss and visit your dentist for regular checkups.
